Maintenance

In an effort to document some of the assumptions that allow contemporary citizens of the industrialized world to continue their standard of living, this project consists of a ruined device and a written acknowledgment of that fact that many of us cannot maintain or repair the mechanical tools crucial to our day-to-day lives. In this case it is an engine and transmission from a Ford Taurus, a common American Sedan. The engine could easily be a computer, laundry machine, television, stove or any number of devices we depend upon for our comfort, convenience and prosperity.

According to our practice of consumption and division of labor, these devices must be replaced when they no longer work or a more desirable option becomes available. It is assumed that the replacement or repair of these devices will remain convenient.
